Autism Speaks and the Marcus Autism Center came together to make this year’s Walk Now for Autism the best one yet! $550,000 was raised this year, and due to the Partnership with Marcus Autism Center half of that money gets to stay here in Georgia where the rate of autism in children is 1 in 136!
The Georgia walk committee led by 2009 walk chair Suzanne Wheeler worked tirelessly to bring an amazing event to Atlantic Station! Lil’ ol’ me had the pleasure of joining that committee. I have never seen a group of volunteers work so hard and be so excited for an event! The kid’s area was unbelievable! Bounce houses, bubble machines, sand and water tables, face and hair makeovers for the kids, party busses, Geoffrey the Giraffe, a petting zoo, and so much more. All for a free fun event for the kids donated by various companies.
Team lil’ ol’ me raised enough money to provide 12 families with 100 day kits! The First 100 Days Kit helps guide families through the first 3 months after receiving an autism diagnosis - providing valuable information to make the best possible use of each day.
You will see Team lil’ ol’ me signing up for the walk next year! Look for us and join our team!
