lil' ol me Making a BIG Difference is not only my foundation's name, it is what I truly believe in my heart. If everyone does a lil' we can create something BIG!
Our mission is to provide “special needs” children, specifically those with autism, with the resources needed to live healthy, thriving lives, as well as teach tolerance and acceptance among their peers. Over the years, I’ve cared for several children with autism. I’ve become sensitive to the needs of children born with this developmental disorder. I knew that I had to do something to help raise awareness in young children as well as help families financially burdened by this disorder.

Having an in home daycare led me to one remarkable woman I will never forget. Jeannine lived in Canton, CT and also owned an in home daycare. Her daughter, Casey, was diagnosed with a rare form of leukemia. As any mother would, Jeannine dropped everything – including closing her daycare – to devote her time and attention to Casey. As a result, Jeannine suffered financial hardships. The town of Canton raised money for the family through various fundraising efforts.

I felt the need to help but didn’t know what I could do. It was just “lil’ ol’ me” . I decided to use my creativity to design cute little bracelets. I made and sold over 650 bracelets, raising $9,000 for the family. There was also a big corporation that raised $10,000. Afterwards, I remember thinking to myself, it was just “lil’ ol’ me” that raised as much money as that big corporation. In that moment, lil’ ol’ me Making a BIG Difference was formed. Unfortunately, we lost Casey in the summer of 2005, but the desire to help children of “special needs” forever remained in my heart.

lil’ ol’ me Making a BIG Difference is a non-profit organization where kids help other kids through fundraising activities. I have seen first hand working with local Girlscouts as well as other children their desire,willingness and excitement to help their peers. Kids helping other kids not only raises their self-esteem but also gives children a sense of belonging, purpose and pride. I’m passionate about making a difference in the lives of children, especially those with “special needs”.

Lil' ol 'me Making a BIG Difference is a 501 (c) (3). All proceeds from lil’ ol’ me Making a BIG Difference will provide scholarships and therapy for children with autism.
